Paul Sass v Harvey Harra
Sass by
triangle.
Paul Sass came out and faked a Superman punch then dropped low for the
single leg. Once on the deck, the writing was on the wall. Harra’s only
significant offensive action was a guillotine attempt from half guard.
The inevitable soon happened. Sass got his leg round the back of the
neck and the triangle was on.
This is the seventh triangle victory in a row for Sass (tenth if you
count semi pro and amateur). The lad is deservedly turning into a local
hero- milking the cheers from the Olympia crowd at the finish.
This establishes Paul Sass as the official number one contender for the
Cage Gladiators Lightweight title. Can champion Rob Sinclair ground and
pound him to sleep before the mystical triangle is applied? Plenty of
punters will pay good money to find out the answer.
Mick Sinclair v
Jason Ball
Mick Sinclair displayed some tidy skills and plenty of intelligence to
get past Jason Ball.
The first round included a demonstration of why you see so few teeps in
MMA. Jason threw a push kick, Mick caught the leg and used it to ram his
man up against the fence. He proceeded to get Ball down onto the floor.
Although he didn’t inflict any major damage, Sinclair undoubtedly landed
enough punches to take the round.
The second frame began with “Daddy Cool” Ball edging a standing
exchange. Mick decided that getting back on the canvas would be the best
option and took Ball down again. After a neat pass, Sinclair took Ball’s
back, got his hooks in and looked set to finish the fight. Despite
taking plenty of fist, Ball refused to be flattened and survived.
The two fighters obviously had the scorecards on their minds in the
final round. Jason came forward, headhunting with a series of one two
combinations. Assuming he was two up, Sinclair fought on the back foot-
restricting himself to sharp counters. Jason Ball has a string of KOs on
his record at Welterweight. Taking unnecessary risks against him would
have been foolish. In the closing seconds- Mick Sinclair put on the
handbrake and traded with Ball. Macho pride or making sure with the
judges? Who cares- it provided a grandstand finish to a gripping
contest.
Mick Sinclair took the unanimous decision. Jason Ball provided value for
money as always.
Lucasz Les was without an opponent up until a couple of days ago,
but the legendary Paul “Hands of Stone” Jenkins came to the
rescue. On paper, this looks like a straight forward sub win for the
fast rising Pole, but things are never straight forward when Jenkins is
involved. “The Hands” was aggressive from the start and even found time
to mouth off at the Wolfslair corner when he was on top of their man.
The resistance was short lived and Les clocked up another sub win- this
time by guillotine.
Jordan James also scored a guillotine victory over Lee
Chadwick. Mark Glover put in another impressive Cage
Gladiators turn. After showing off some classy stand up and take down
defence, he took Aaron Wilkinson’s back and ended the contest
with a rear naked choke.
Julian Soares took a decision victory over Leslee Ojugbana.
Les landed a superb flying knee that would have finished many opponents.
“Jabba” slammed Les to the canvas with some spectacular slams. The rest
of the match was forgettable, with Marc Goddard repeatedly breaking the
stalemate by standing the fighters up. At one point, time out was called
so the ref could encourage the pair to engage.
Alex Makhonin was handed the win after the doctor ruled a cut
over Kev Axworthy’s left eye meant he couldn’t continue. Axworthy
and the Kaobon team were far from happy with the stoppage and protested
angrily.
James McGuinness never looked in any bother on his way to
submitting Daniel Howard in the first round. As soon as Mick
Bowman’s fight with Muay Thai specialist Colm Gillane hit the
deck, it was game over. Armbar- sub.
Kam Atakuru moved from being the best UK fighter with a 1-3
record to the being best UK fighter with a 1-4 record. Kam “ikaze”
bossed his fight against Russell Burns before being caught with a
guillotine.
Kane Mooser delighted his army of fans in the top tiers by
beating Andy McGurgan over three tough rounds.
