Ross
Pearson v Ian Jones
Ultimate Force Lightweight Title
Ross
Pearson: The Real Deal. After tonight- there can’t be many doubters
left. Taking on a spirited opponent in his own back yard- Ross kept his
cool to pull off a convincing victory.
Surprisingly- it was Jones who took the fight to the ground from the
clinch. Working from side position- the local hero managed to land some
decent strikes. The pair got to their feet- and Ian put a lot of effort
into a standing guillotine attempt. When the fight hit the deck again-
Ross was on top and the writing was on the wall. He passed guard and
began landing some serious punches. Jones tried to roll out and Ross
snapped up the chance for a rear naked choke.
Remaining calm under pressure is the sign of class in any sport. Ian
Jones came to fight, but Ross never looked like buckling. The hottest
prospect in UK MMA.
Vacant Ultimate Force Light-Heavyweight Title
Denniston Sutherland v Kevin Thompson
Kevin
Thompson has racked up the wins on the North East circuit- but he could
not cope with the power of Denniston Sutherland. Thompson showed
Denniston plenty of respect. Instead of his normal full frontal assault-
he started on the back foot. When the two came together- Kevin had a
couple of good looking sub attempts- but neither the guillotine nor the
rear naked choke were successful. By the end of the first- it was
Denniston who had taken control. With his opponent awkwardly against the
cage- Sutherland unloaded. If the bell had come a few seconds later- it
could have ended there.
The tide had turned. From the start of the second- it was Denniston
pushing the pace. Kevin desperately grabbed the cage to avoid the take
down. When they hit the floor he covered up as Sutherland continued to
let the punches go. The ref stepped in, Denniston celebrated and Kev
Thompson stayed down.
A convincing performance from Denniston Sutherland.
Vacant Ultimate Force Welterweight Title
Wayne “Mayhem” Murray v Leslee “Hollywood” Ojugbana
Fight
of the Night.
Les came out looking for the takedown. Throughout the first round, the
pair fought out a gruelling ground war- with Les on top. These are two
of the strongest welters out there, and they put everything into a tough
five minutes.
The second round was more of the same- with Murray taking the upper
hand. He took Ojugbana’s back and got his hooks in, but he couldn’t get
his forearm in for the choke. No matter how often he was punched - Les
refused to lift his head up.
Towards the end of the second- they were stood up. This had been as
tough as it gets- and both looked knackered. Les backed up to the fence.
Wayne let a head kick go. It landed. He stepped in and let a sharp
combination go. Les took them all, wobbled, but stayed on his feet.
When they came out for the third- Les did all he could do to give
himself a chance. He shot for
the takedown. Wayne knew it was coming and was waiting to demonstrate
the perfect sprawl. He flipped Les over, mounted him and sent down a
relentless sequence of punches. Ref Goddard had no choice and waved it
off.
Two tough and talented guys put on a fantastic fight.
Jason “Daddy Cool” Ball v Aidan Marron
Jason
Ball made a winning debut as a lightweight. Up against one of the
hardest guys in the biz- he looked sharp and confident. Aidan went
looking for a single leg take down. Jason defended against the fence.
Marron adjusted his position and left his back open. Ball cashed in,
slipping his forearm under Aidan’s chin- he straightened up and earned
the sub with a standing rear naked choke.
Another quality addition to the UK lightweight ranks.
Danny Mitchell delighted his lively fan base with an all action
win over Greg Letch. After dishing out the ground and pound- he
dropped back to earn a sub via a straight leg lock.
The equally popular Lanus Jones simply overwhelmed Alex Holman
in less than a minute. Holman had no answer to the strength and skill of
Jones. Lanus was doing real damage with his right hand before the ref
called a halt.
Martin Wilby earned a first round win over Mark Mills, by
way of armbar. Jamie Williams defeated Nathan Kurk, also
by first round arm bar. Steve Ward scored a ground and pound
stoppage over Chris Askham.
Semi
Pro
Scott Askham stopped Dan Edwards after showcasing some
impressive stand up skills. James Parker and Scott Fairclough
left it all in the cage in a bruising encounter- Parker winning by
armbar. Sean Fells earned a decision victory over Liam Mellow.
Ryan Scope has been highly rated by many North East shrewdies for
a while now. The youngster continued his progression with a 52 second
arm bar win over Kieron Keigher.
Am’s
Kyle Howes defeated Oliver Lavell with a triangle.
James Handley scored a unanimous decision over Ashley Glayson.
Crowd
Lively. Get behind their guys more than any other crowd in the country.
Is it a Record?
Chris and Scott Askham fought. Is this the first time a
father and son have fought on the same bill in the UK.
Is it a Record? (2)
Two fighters, Wayne Murray and Alex Holman, had to leave
the cage as they had forgotten to put their groin guards on.
