#5 Nick Diaz

Where do you start. Where do you finish. Just open up and let it flood out. What can I say? It would be an insult to plan a tribute to Nick Diaz- the King of the stream of consciousness.

Fighting. The pasting he gave Robbie ‘world class stand up’ Lawler, including goofy distractional waves was him all over. Forcing Gomi to tap on the last hurrah of Pride. Even in defeat, he always comes to fight. And he’s very good at it.

Forget the fighting: it’s all about Diaz the man. The loose cannon. The rock’n’roll star.

There are no quotes in this piece. None can do him justice. (Seek them out yourself) In this bland, manufactured post Pop Idol greyness we call life in the 21st Century, how many people say what’s on their mind. Especially if it will cost them money. Especially if it will cause them to be cast out and treated like a trench coat case. Stick a microphone in front of Diaz and he is away.

Free of the mind shackles of sponsors and belonging. Nick’s all about the truth.
His truth.

Organic vegetables- Great. Anything not fresh out of the earth is a CIA plot to turn you into a gay Republican but you are too fat and stupid and whacked out on E numbers to get off your greased arse and do anything about it.

Drug testing- The trick is not to fail them. I’m not like them Marion Jones I love my dog I don’t cheat gum faced palookas. All those other arse licking pricks are juiced up to the eyeballs on roids. Why test for weed anyway?

Marijuana- It is the perfect thing after a hard days training. I don’t go down to the casino with fake titted painted whores who stick razor blade covered bottles of Mountain Dew up my toenail painted ring piece. I just want to beat the hell out of people, come home, smoke weed and attack little Nate with martial arts weaponry. I’ve done a triathlon stoned. It makes you a better fighter.

Fighting- All I want to do is beat people up. I don’t care what organisation- I only want to fight.

My personal opinions on the 4 tenets of the Diaz faith are, √, √, X, √.

I used to smoke tons of weed. The only positive effects are that it makes shit records sound good and ….
In general, I find people who bang on about the benefits of recreational drug abuse dull in the extreme. However, when Nick Diaz rambles manically in search of lifeline to rescue him from his uptight hell, I find it refreshing.

Isn’t it great to have someone who is ‘bad for the sport’. By that, I mean someone who does his own thing rather than toe the corporate line. The sport is full of ‘Bad Boys’, but they are only bad when they’re told to be and in the most predictable, sub WWE way. When someone’s a real character, not one cobbled together from reality show outtakes- it shines. Shines so bright they’ve got to go.

Honesty is a sign of youth. Most of us grow out of it and go with the flow. Take the buck not the flak.

Nick Diaz may well pay dearly for being honest.

hurtbusiness salutes him
